The taillight mounts are different. Early ones have 6 bolts, the later ones
have 8. I would think its only a matter of drilling holes, but I would just
check that the shape of the beaver panel will fit the later light contour
first so you wont get leaks into the boot..

The earlier cars are very slightly lighter, mainly due to trim differences.

The only suspension difference is that the front struts of the early cars
are shorter and therefore they sit lower at the front in standard
configuration. This also means the front crossmember's inner pivot points
are 40mm higher in the crossmember. It's a better crossmember if you are
lowering the suspension as the geometry doesn't get too out of whack.

Rear suspension is identical.

Otherwise there is little to choose between the early and late cars
mechanically. The engine bays are identical from a body panel point of
view. One subtle difference is the bonnet hinges are a slightly different
size and therefore not "bolt on" interchangeable with the later ones. You
only find out this one if you try to fit the later model hinges to the early
body mounting points. These can easily be modified to fit by elongating the
mounting bolt holes.

If you happen to have the original "Datsun 1600" embossed rocker cover,
flaunt it, they are rare.

There are slight differences due to the different wiper design (if fitted
with the crossover type) and the wiring has a couple of minor differences.

That's about all except for the obvious design differences in the dash. I
like the early dash, most dont.
