Andrew,
The option one gears are the same as a conventional five speed but are
different ratios and use a dogleg 4/5 same plane shift pattern with a one to
one top gear. The shifter rails and selector rings are different to any
other Nissan stuff and in my opinion are becoming a little old for race use
now depending on previous use, due to gear cracking etc.
There was a supposedly option one going in Perth about twelve months ago and
I was tracking it down but it turned out to be a modded Stanza box. If you
find an option one grab it for posterity and keep it on the shelf as they
are not making any more of them.
My preference these days is for an R31 skyline box with new gears cut to
suit. These 71C boxes are stronger and parts are easily available.
Cheers
Feral Errol

Errol,
Whats the story with the option 1 as far as the gears are concerned. Are
they straight cut or helix, dog mesh or sincromesh. Are they wider
gears. What about the holinger 240k box.About a year ago I passed up an
option 1 for $500 because it had 1to1 ratio 5th gear(silly me).Now I
really need something stronger than a dogleg.I'm having to nurse the
gearbox at the moment and I dont like doing that.
