Andrew,

Prince of Darkness model 15AC - outputs a massive 28 amps usually for as
short a time as possible after the warranty runs out. These are very
unreliable and usually the culprit is the regulator, but if it's original
the brushes are probably shot.

These alternators just aren't worth fixing and I'd be very surprised if you
can buy a new one for a Datto these days. Unless you are restoring a 1600
Aussie production model to original spec I'd suggest you hot foot down to
your local Upull and grab a 55 amp Bosch from a Bluebird either L20 or CA20
and bolt on some real power. You'll have to get the correct fan belt for the
Bosch as the Lucas uses a V section belt (V559 or something) I can't
remember the number for the Bosch but Stanza L16 or Bluebird L20 without
a/cond is the one you need.

regards
Terry

Subject: alternator wont charge

Hi everyone

I have swapped everything from a working car into a new shell - engine,
wiring loom etc. But now the dash charge light stays on and i dont know
why. the alt is a lucas 15A model. the manual says the first thing to
check if this happens is that voltage between the 'IND' wire and ground
is battery voltage. It isnt - its about 11V, but I have checked that all
connections are clean and tight many times.

Can anyone please suggest a procedure to figure out what the problem is
and how to fix it, I would really appreciate it because I am stumped.

Thankyou for any help
Andrew
