Zac,

It's unlikely that your wiring is wrong on a Bosch alternator, they are so
simple to hook up.

The Bat wire is the thick White one
The Ind wire is the small Yellow one
The Earth is Black

make sure the Hitachi voltage reg plug is disconnected (usually near stock
battery position on the tower) and you splice the Ind wire (yellow) from the
alternator into the loom at the old reg plug (White/Red trace) and that's it
done. Check the "common" fuse in the box and check the connection in the big
white wire going into the fuse box and check the connection of the white
wire at the starter motor. Check the engine earth is secure and also the
body earth that near where the Hitachi reg was bolted on to the strut tower.
Ind light glowing under load usually tells me the voltage reg is stuffed or
the brushes are arcing under load.

To check visually if your alternator is charging without any meters, start
the engine and turn on your headlights, rev the engine up to 2K rpm and the
light shout go bright and then return to idle and the lights should dim
slightly.

regards
Terry

Subject: Bosch alternator wiring

Hi guys, I seem to be experiencing problems with my Bosch alternator. I have
had it out and tested, it made over 13v easily but amps was a little high
(not
sure what that means, the tester just commented on it).
I am thinking perhaps the wiring is wrong?
Can someone go through the wiring method again with me?
Are there some other wires on the loom that I need to plug/remove?
Unfortunately the loom is not original, I replaced it with one from an auto
vehicle. Not sure what year though.

thanks,
zac
