That was the red 300Kw job that drove to the track and left on a trailer.

Pretty quick for a holden It could drag a GTR up the straights.

SS Holden, Hrm. I would be careful how you treat her in the first few
thousand kms, despite what the manufacturer says and so on. We were
watching a new ss holden run around sandown last year sometime, I had looked
at his kms, and he only a a bit over 1000kms on him from memory. Took a few
laps around the track, and came back in with a tinking noise in his engine
like a rod had let go or something. I have also seen another one let go
somewhere, but can't remember where. Maybe trev knows.
Better safe than sorry I reckon.
regards Greg

Thanks for that, but the main thing I should have mentioned is that it is a
new engine (SS Commodore) just want to run her in right...

Thanks

Iggy,

There a a number of myths regarding the running in of
a rebuilt engine ( as opposed to a new factory engine)

The only component in an engine that needs to be
"bedded in" are the rings. This is usually acheived by
"semi labouring" (NOT pinging) the engine in 3rd gear
up a steep incline. This forces the rings against the
walls of the cylinder and they take up the shape more
quickly.

Vary the engine speed i.e. Dont sit on the same speed
for long periods of time. Some rebuilders also suggest
"running in" oil and changing it after approx 500Km.

Hope this helps

Regards

Bruce
