hmmm everyone on the list so far has said you have to take the head off to do the big ends, why's this? I ended up getting the big ends done today at the workshop down the road cause I didn't have the tools or the time available to me at the moment to do it myself, they didn't remove the head. Just unbolted one engine mount, put the car up on the hoist and used one of those gearbox removal jack thingo's to push the gearbox up and lift the engine away from the crossmember far enough for the sump to clear the oil pickup, changed the bearings and reversed the procedure, took him about an hour. Left the car there over night to get a few minor roadworthy items fixed, pick it up tomorrow morning then straight off to the D.O.T for rego.  Can't wait to give it a decent squirt, I bought it with the busted big end so I haven't had a chance to really open it up yet cause I didn't wanna damage anything.

L series (never done a Z18 but it looks much the same deal) - big ends can be replaced with the block still in the car. Remove the head first. Then you have to undo the engine mounts from the xmember and remove the sump guard and remove the sump bolts - you lift the engine up a tad at the front and the sump comes out the front of the engine on the passenger side. The fiddly bit is the oil pickup has to be removed from the block and you just let it drop into the sump. Refitting the pickup is also fiddly and don't forget it ( don't laugh, it's happened). The rest of it is just following your instincts.
