Sounds like you do have a Bosch. The PN for the regulator is written on the back of it. There are two common types (not interchangeable) and they're both usually in stock and available from REPCO. Piece of cake to change it - one type requires a soldering iron (older model) but the other type (~'81-2 on) just clips in.

Interesting... I was considering just replacing the whole alternator....  I will have a look if I can just replace the brushes and regulator as you say.
