hi, depends how much effort you want to put
into it. i would take it back to the primer, remember to grind back to metal
where the gog work is poor etc.... then put two pack primer over
it.
you can put 2pack over acrylic.
some people say certain things
etc,,, that you can do this or put that over that or use this with
that. but my brother knows a lot more than i do. , and has mixed up
certain hardners, thinners etc with very good
results.
he`ll be back on 15 th jan. so if u want
email me with any more questions then, and i`ll get him to answer
you.
he works as a spray painter at bruce lellman crash
repairs, here in renmark

well the body is
pretty close to perfect, it has just been repainted. i.e. the guy i bought it
off had painted it and then he sold it to me. The paint is just not perfect,
looks burnt and scuffed in places etc. Hard to explain.
Anyway, it has a
proper coat of acrylic, solid midnight blue from ford...which is actually
purple. So i would have to go back to primer to do 2pak right? i mean i
couldn't paint 2 pak over the acrylic paint?
cheers again
mate

hi, if you go to 2pak u dont have to go
back to bare metal, in fact u can use 2pak straight over acrylic
primer. its better if u use 2 pak primer as well, cause it fills
a heck of alot better than acrylic primer etc.... all u have to do is grind
back any body work that has crows feet, lifting body filler, flacking
paint etc..... i am not too sure on the price on 2 pack primer, but i
think that its about 150-200 dollars for 4 litres including hardner, but
depends alot on brand.
as for how much it would all cost
depends onb the condition of car. large tin of body filler is around
35-45 dollars, then you have paper etc...
use 36 grit to get a decent shape
of bog, then go over it with 80 or 120 dry rub then put primer over
that.
i use a longboard with the 36 grit on
that.

hi, i would use around 400-600 wet`n
dry. if its too smooth the paint wont stick
properly. my brother has gone away for holidays , and he
would have a pretty good idea of whats wot. if you still need
info he`ll be back on 16th jan.
acrylic is getting a bit old hat
now, you are better off using 2-pack. e.g protec 604
paint..

Subject: paint
does anyone here know much about paintint
a 1600?
my paint is new but quite
rough.
i am thinking of doing an acrylic job,
well getting someone to spray it for me.
If i did the prep work which is just
sanding back the car with 800 wet and dry to take the shine
off.......i'm guessing that is all...please tell me if i am wrong, How
much should i pay for the labour and paint....assuming that i don't
use a booth?
How much should i pay for
paint?
I was told it was group 4 paint and thus
expensive....it is a ford midnight blue that i am doing......any help
is appreciated guys.
