when i put the  5speed  in my 1600, i had to modify the crossmember. i cut the bit out where the gearbox mount goes, then bolted up the other two halves to the body.

then i bolted the middle bit up to the box, with a jack underneath it, put it up to the right height, then cut out some   3mm mild steel plate  to make it all fit together,  tack welded it  all together , while it was still on the car ,  took it of then fully welded it.

Guys

I have a small problem with my gearbox cross member. It does not fit.

I am not sure what will fit and don't know any decent datto blokes in the north ACT area keen to give me a hand.

Would it be possible to get a metal fabricator/merchant to make one for me?

would it cost much?

what should he made it out of? mild steel?

cheers for those who answer
