My sump oil disposal method is similar. I dilute the sump oil with kero and spray it with a cheap kero spray gun onto wooden paling fences.   It leaves palings and rails a nice dark colour and makes your fence last forever.  Environmentally friendly too.
If you have a diesel engine in the family and buy oil by the 20 litre drum, its better to take the waste to the oil recyclers, as fences can only absorb so much and diesel sump oil is thick as.

When we were kids we used to clean out the expansion chambers on the motorcross bikes with caustic soda after every race meet. The exhaust note was allways nice and crisp after.I wont say where we poured the left over caustic soda.

You also have a real problem with disposal of the caustic later on, and if you dump it and get caught out as most people do the fines from EPA are mortgage sizeDo yourself a favour and fork out the $30 to get it done

David,

Blocks and engine parts are not acid dipped to clean them. They are “hot tanked” in a hot sprayed very caustic solution in a machine very similar to a home dishwasher. You cannot get as good a job at home.

guys I'm thinking of acid dipping my block at home, I've been told the acid they use for dipping blocks and the like is just caustic soda and water.  does anyone know what ratio to mix them? (how many parts soda to how many parts water etc) how long should I leave a block in for?

can the rods be dipped too? mine are covered in crap from lying around the workshop I got em from.

Dave
