List,

Fumes in the engine bay are not a problem, unless of
course the filter is either blocked or you have so
much blow-by that the filter cant cope. I have never
experienced this problem.

If you have that much blow-by that you need the oil to
be returned to the sump, you have a engine overhaul on
your hands and no matter what type of return system
you use, it couldn't cope in that instance.

I used a section of 75mm exhaust pipe (free scrap from
a muffler shop)170mm long. Drilled a hole 40mm from
the top to accept a pipe fitting ( about 40mm long )to
match the dia of the rocker cover outlet, then welded
the pipe in place.

Drilled a hole 20mm from the bottom to fit a return
pipe fitting (again about 40mm long) same dia as the
sump inlet feed pipe (cant recall exact dia's), then
welded this in place. In my case both pipes were in
line with each other, figure out how you want the
pipes to run and place them at whatever angles
relative to one another you want.

Made up 2 circular plates (cant recall what guage, but
sufficient not to distort during welding) to match the
75mm dia of the pipe, drilled a hole in the one that
was to be the top plate and fitted a pipe to match the
outside dia of a small filter assy (availiable from
almost any parts place .. I used a Redline one).

Drilled a small hole in the bottom plate and silver
soldered a small brass tap in place (I thought this is
a good idea to do as you use it to drain the can if
necessay .. a bit of overkill on my behalf I guess,
but what the hell, didn't cost me anything)

Weld the top and bottom plates in place and "voila" a
catch can. Chrome it, annodise it, paint it ..
whatever takes your fancy.

To fit it to the car, not a real drama. Found an old
washer bottle support bracket that had the same curve
as the can, modified it to mount on the firewall
(screwed it in place) and used two extra large hose
camps to secure the catch can to the bracket( cant see
the bracket as it is hidden behind the can). Where
you place it in the engine bay is your choice.

This is where I got a little XXX'y went to Enzed and
used braided oil resistant hose to go between the
rocker cover and the top and block and the bottom
pipe. I used a small section of rubber hose and hose
clamps to mount the filter onto the top pipe.

The whole "shooting match" looks neat, tidy, different
and is legal.

Hope this helps

"Fergy"
