I have also tried both and the 40s will not give the top end power of the 45s. If they do why did they ever bring out the bigger carbies. How many grunter motors have you seen running with 40s.
As Errol said, the parts for 45s are easier to get a hold of. Getting 180 - 200 out of an L20 is going to need more than just 45s.
