With the engine off, depress the brake pedal a number of times to expel all of the vacuum. Hold your foot down (about normal braking pressure) on the brake pedal and start the engine. If a booster is working properly the brake pedal will travel slightly towards the floor. Another problem with Bendix booster is the inline valve which is one way. I have recently installed a bendix brake booster and master cylinder. I took it for a drive after it was all done and the brakes felt pretty good. On the weekend I took it for another drive (some 2 months after I first drove it) and the brakes felt very very hard. I believe that the booster may not be working - is there any way of checking this or could something else be wrong.
