Mark,

One thing I've learnt over the years is to be completely honest with Police,
RTA and Insurance companies. If you're not, things inevitably turn to sh*t,
especially in the case of motor vehicles and you have the misfortune of
being involved in an accident that's not even your fault. The first thing
both parties assessors will do is check your VIN & Engine # and modification
listing against your rego documents and what he finds on your vehicle -
these guys are professionals and they've seen it all. Guess what happens to
you if you've hit a Merc and you've not disclosed.

regards
Terry

Subject: out goes L16, in goes L20B

List,

I am keen to do this changeover soon but i am a bit concerned about whether
or not i will need to get an engineer's cert for it in victoria because i
can't afford one!

I have 240K struts and brakes already, and i know there are plenty of 1600s
running around with L20's in them without engineers, but if an engineers is
required what are my options?

If an engineers is technically required but i don't tell vicroads i have the
new engine, and I do tell my insurance company about the engine and all my
mods, is the insurance company likely to refuse a claim because i haven't
told vicroads about it?

Also, what are my chances that i ring vicroads and advise them that my old
engine 'died' and that i have installed another reco engine, eng no L208,
2378 (leaving out the 'B') without them catching on that it is a bigger
engine? If i pulled that off would i have less chance of insurance denying
my claims?

Ultimately i think i will probably need to get a certificate if it is
required, i am not real keen to do it dodgey but i am just curious to know
what other ppl have done cos i have seen plenty of them around without
engineers and i simply can't afford one!

Sorry for the long post, and thanks for any help

Mark.
