That might explain it - you see a 1600 in the 70's is rated 96 bhp sae gross
etc (75hp DIN but know one knows this at rego) and a L20B is rated at 94hp
DIN (70kw) so no worries sir, no problem as I've actually dropped a couple
of horses.

Another option you have if you dont have the dollars for an engineers
certificate is to check out the VIC regulations on self engineering.
In NSW, you can self engineer a motor swap if the capacity increase
and the expected performance increase do not exceed 15%. That would
mean that a swap from an L16 to an L18 would be legal. I would not be
surprised to find similar rules in VIC. Then it is just a matter of
going into the RTA and filling in the appropriate forms, and you get
to keep some more of your hard earned dosh.

untill you can do everything legally and properly before hitting the
road. A little more money and patience is worth it in the long
run. It's always in your best interest to be honest and polite to the
police. After being pulled over several times, it makes a huge
difference if you're polite and up-front about your vehicle. I guess
they hear so many excuses etc.. that they appreciate some
straight-talk :) I just heard of someone who was hit by a car in NZ
travelling 200 km/h in a 50km zone it was pretty horrific by the
sounds of things. Just brings the whole modified car scene to a lower
level when people drive stupidly in built-up areas, then the general
public assumes the person behind the wheel is a danger to everyone.
Guess I sound like an old man (I'm not that old!) and a little speed
is great fun sometimes but it's worth thinking about. Good luck with
the L20b conversion.
