Damien,

I have often wondered why they apparently went backwards brake wise on the late model 200B - they aren't all that bad as far as brakes go, just not as awesome as the early 200B as far as solid discs go.

I've not done the R30 brake combo, I'm told the tapered ball joints from the early 1600 require the R30 struts to be modified to retain the strength etc. I'm guessing that the pos camber problem is the same as Aussie Bluebirds as the steering arm and ball joints are at a different angle to the 1600, may be you can get this back by using the offset tops or even slotting the towers. I usually think that these very common parts wise conversions must come with "hard bits" as we would all have it done by now if it was a ventilated option. The Japanese 910 and the Gazelle S12 (both ventilated) have much the same deal as I've seen an attempt to do these on a 1600 and you definitely need adjustable lower control arms, no big deal but factor them into you're costs.

As I see it the Magna or Verada disc and Commy callipers with optional Ford pistons are still the best bang for buck ventilated combo for a 1600, only bummer with this one is you need late 180B struts. I don't think we've come up with a perfect 200B/240K strut ventilated combo yet, goodness knows we've been trying for as long as I've been on this list. Mick Ralph's Mazda/Pathfinder combo is the best I've seen, but the bits are pretty hard to come by.

regards
Terry

Subject: RE: new V's old 200B callipers

Terry,

So the newer 200B brakes have smaller rotors and smaller pad surface area, therefore not desirable to the enthuasiast. Why did Nissan take a step backwards with this change of brakes on the one model??

I am thinking of using R31 discs and calipers on R30 struts as I have these goods on hand. Not a bad way to upgrade to vented, plus it is all bolt-on. Apparently the R30/Bluebird strut gives a positive camber, but I will hopefully be able to counter this affect by putting 180B offset strut tops on the the R30 strut assembly. Any thoughts on this combo?

Thanks,

 Damien.
