Not burning Terry, actually turning music cd's into mp3's.  I've scratched my head a heap of times about the aspi drivers.  I tried upgrading them and no luck as the upgrades cannot find any versions of aspi to upgrade.  My ripping program terminates on some tracks saying "cannot read aspi error".

Anyways thanks for the advice

Tried both those and still no luck.  If I turn the volume on the computer right up and the volume on the stereo right up I can just hear something coming out of my stereo if I put my ear up to the speaker.  As for windows 98 I find it stable but a pain in the butt.  I have 98SE but it has no ASPI drivers (apparently?) thus whenever I got to rip my CD's to MP3's it stuffs up.
[Terry Rudd]  That's rubbish, vie been burning CD's and ripping etc for years with SE and it has got ASPI layer drivers. What breed of card are you using to run the burner?

I never had this prob with XP when it was working fine.  I checked the BIOS and even reset it to the defaults and it still has no luck.  On start-up it shows the drive been part of the system but doesn't "search" for anything in the drive like it used to.

I'm open to any other suggestions guys.

A vibra 128 should work fine in XP with the driver supplied with winXP by default.

I dont have XP installed but the instructions I give below are for win2k (similar to xp, should be able to work it out)

First things first,

double check things arent muted
(Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control)
make sure Play control, wave/direct sound and cd audio are not muted out, mic & audio in might produce some hiss if they arent muted.

Secondly,

go to the control panel and then system
(Settings -> Control panel -> System)

Then go to the hardware tab and then device manager
Check that under "Sound, video and game controllers" you dont have any devices (such as your sound card) with a big red or yellow exclamation mark/cross through them, and that its actually there.

try this and if still no luck post again,

good luck!

Greg.

Subject: OFF TOPIC: COMPUTERS

Hey all you computer guru's out there,

I came back from holidays after getting my new soundcard to work properly with Windows XP and have now got no sound.  The tech guy would sold the vibra 128 to me said it would work (and it did for a few weeks) now reckons I need to upgrade to a LIVE.  I tried my mates LIVE today and the same problem.  I checked my stereo and its fine.  I thought yep no worries, I'll reformat it.  But now XP doesn't recognise that I have an "A" drive.  Whats more no matter what BIOS settings I have, it won't boot of it on start-up.

Please help.  I really need my putey working and have no idea of what to do!
