If you unscrew the black cap on top of the carbies and pull the plunger out you should 
be able to see oil in the plunger chamber - or not if it is empty!.

This is one of the most annoying things about SU's, they eat this oil, you should 
check it at least every week.

Top them up to just over the inner shoulder with motorcyle fork oil - or whatever 
gives you a good balance between performance and economy.
