Leighton, Don't know, Nissan just did the FJ that way and even the one off engines produced prior to that were much the same. I'm fairly sure the FJ was their first (if not then one of the first) mass produced DOHC engine so may be they just didn't think about it. Toy DOHC engines of that era were just the same except with the Toy V6's they had a different philosophy i.e. V6 2 cam per head Toy's had Quad cam badges splattered all over the body where Nissan called the same engine configuration a twin cam (as in per head.) I think the DE(TT) designation just got fashionable in the early 90's may be as a selling point, and everyone is doing it now except for Toy as they still use G to indicate DOHC engines and who can figure that?
