Sounds like fun, Looked at the website....
What is the "Great Oceam Road Rally" (sic) in November? Is this a closed road speed event on the great ocean road in Victoria?? Are some of these events speed events? Or just route finding on open roads in unreliable British cars? 60 vehicles competed in the MG Spring Rally this past weekend. Starting
from Penrith at 8.00 am on Saturday and travelling via Richmond, Back of Bell,
Hartley, Rydal, Lunch at Kirkconnell then through Rylestone to Mudgee for a stay
at the most luxurious Country comfort, a few beers with old friends, a good look
at the cars competing, quite a number of Datsun 2000 Sports this year, a Lancia
Stratos and of course the obligatory two dozen MGs.
500 kilometres of roads with approx. 10% being gravel.
That night, a wonderful 3 course meal (and a couple of bottles of Frog Rock
2001 Shiraz) and then off to bed for an early start.
Day 2, an 8.00 am start and 300 Km of roads with 10% being gravel, through
vineyards to Gulgong, Dunnydoo and other strangely named towns then back for a
BBQ lunch at Mudgee. All crews congratulated each other, enjoyed a few
drinks and then some tense moments as the results were posted. At the end
of day one we were all told our scores, BUT the important point was how had our
competition fared.
Final results were posted at about 1.30 pm. More
congratulations to those that did well then straight into the car and head to
Frog Rock Winery where there 2001 Shiraz was being cleared out at half
price $120.00 per case (1/4 of what we paid for it at dinner
the night before) load the boot with 3 cases and then a nice trip home.
So how did the L20 powered stanza go. Like a dream and a first place
in class to my wife and I, on our second rally as a team.
How do you get involved in the next one;
Dominic Votano
