Great ocean road rally is a classic rally using some of those roads.

Most classic rallies like the (F1 grand prix rally and Alpine Classic) are predominantly great driving events, sticking to the speed limit ;^) and contain some element of speed events with the hire of a race track, a motor khana etc.  BUT because of insurance problems these are becoming rarer. Others are a pure test of reliability of car and compatibility of driver and navigator.    Like Orienteering in a car.

At these classic rallies I have competed against Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari F40, 550, 246 Gt Spider Dino, Lancia Stratos, Original Works rally cars such as London -Sydney Mini, Escorts and Volvo 142, Holden FJ ute, 450 Kw Mitsubishi Evo, R34 Skyline GTR, 2.5 litre Supercharged Riley Convertible, assorted Hot Holdens, Fords, mercs etc. The most expensive car would have been the F40 worth $900,000 with the cheapest a $1,000 Austin 1800.

In a drag race this year with my 225Kw STI against a 429 Cobra across 200metres, the smile on my face lasted hours. (8.28 secs on standing 1/8th against the Cobra's 8.31)

Have I tempted anyone!

Subject: Re: Report on Spring Rally/ What is Great Ocean Road Rally

Sounds like fun,

Looked at the website....

What is the "Great Oceam Road Rally" (sic) in November?
Is this a closed road speed event on the great ocean road in Victoria??

Are some of these events speed events? Or just route finding on open roads in unreliable British cars?

Starting from Penrith at 8.00 am on Saturday and travelling via Richmond, Back of Bell, Hartley, Rydal, Lunch at Kirkconnell then through Rylestone to Mudgee for a stay at the most luxurious Country comfort, a few beers with old friends, a good look at the cars competing, quite a number of Datsun 2000 Sports this year, a Lancia Stratos and of course the obligatory two dozen MGs.

All crews congratulated each other, enjoyed a few drinks and then some tense moments as the results were posted.  At the end of day one we were all told our scores, BUT the important point was how had our competition fared.
