Chris,
I've
looked up the posts you referred to (and the replies, two of which was from
me) and I would have answered the same as I did a couple of weeks ago to your
original and follow-up questions. Also, I would back
Stewart's judgement on most things Datto every time - I have a lot of respect
for him and his opinions.
Did
Stu actually see your car (drive it?) with the Sumis fitted. What didn't
you like with the Sumis - fade, shudder, binding etc. If they were in good
working order wouldn't fitting a better quality pad eg Ultimates have been an
option?
In my
opinion there is probably very little difference in braking performance between
Girlocks and Sumis both with standard Bendix pads. A Girlock with Pagid pads
will also perform much the same as Sumis with Bendix Ultimate pads. One thing
that I noticed with my Girlocks and Pagid blue pads is that I warped stock 200B
rotors surprisingly very easy - I got sick of it and happened to get
offered a set of DBA Sports rotors and no more warping so far. I haven't
got any Ultimate pads lying around here to check what the numbers are on the
back of them for you. (I run Ultimates in my R31 rears)
I
can't comment at the moment on how good Bosch Premiums are as I've never tried
them - I've got a set in the shed to try with my R31's next time I'm due for a
pad change, but ppl I've spoken to that have tried them think they're OK
whatever that means (not bad?)
Street
vs. Track days.
Here's
where the components that you chose for brakes gets tricky as most reasonably
good street brakes don't last very long on a track, especially in summer time.
Stock 1600 disc/drum brakes last about half way through the second lap at
Wakefield, a good middle range brake setup like what I've got probably would
last 4 may be 5 laps of serious track work. I've only ever done 3 laps with this
setup and although pretty warm and smelly it was still working very strong at
the end. One thing about Pagid pads on the street, especially in Canberra (cold)
is that they howl when they're coming up to temperature - very off putting for
the punters stopped at lights when a 30 yo Datto comes in behind them with the
brakes squealing - I get some real strange looks and no one wants you to go
anywhere near you. On the other side of the coin, tailgaters are your worst
enemy, as you can out brake almost anything on the road and by a long way, so
your rear end is precious and you're forever very conscious of what's up your
rear - we get chicks driving Exels here that drive so close you cant even see
their headlights - I just back off until they change lanes - we all pull up to
the next set of lights together anyway.
This
probably doesn't help your position much?
regards
Terry
