Mark, Could be a sensor malfunction - on the FJ I always start with checking that the TPS is working properly, then the connections on the Air flow device, then the water temp connector on the thermostat housing, hows the thermostat?, and then the connector on the ECU. If all those inputs are working, then it should run like magic.
