hi,  if you go to undo the nut on the tierod end and it happens to turn the
taper,  then try putting a jack under the tie rod end to jam the taper  in
tighter.

 if your going to replace it  just undo the nut and bash the taper down.

if ya going to reuse it , undo the nut then get a  heavy hammer and bash the
side of the side of the metal that goes around the taper .  since you bash
the side  this has the effect of compressing the hole and putting pressure
on the taper , to force it down.

 i have done this many times , and this method works supprising well, some
times beetter than a  bought splitter.

  if you get a wheel allignment ,  just ask them to fit a tie rod end, it
would take no longer than 15 minutes  to fit .
bythe way, who`s gonna know if you fit it yaself.?
