Hello Matthew,

When you are earthing the test light to? If there is power to the
copper connectors, and you are earthing to the body, then the earth
side of the copper connectors could be dodgy. That could also explain
why your fuel gauge works when given a beating, the bashing might be
knocking the earth good again for a second before it falls back off.
