the question left unasked.

Re: RE: Z series blocks:

Hi,

just wondering what else is required if I went to a z20 or z22 bottom end
from a z18.
It's not as easy as putting the z18turbo top end onto a z20 or z22 bottom
end is it??

are the z20 and z22 bottom ends easy to find??

would it make much difference to performance, if there kept standard ???

don't laugh too hard if it's a silly question, just thought I'd ask
Thanks
Dave

yeah I have a Z20 (dunno whether it's E or S can't see either letter
stamped on it) block sitting here that I was going to use
but after hearing the Z22 block can go out to 89mm safely sounds like I
should go find one
thank god I decided to pay for my rods before the pistons haha how cut
would I be hearing this if I'd already paid for the 86mm pistons I was
gunna get made

Stock Z22 is actually 87x92 for 2389cc but yea can go to 89 or even 90mm
for an easy medium-block 2.4 litre with a Z24 crank (which must be ground
to fit the Z22 block in the same manner as to fit an L20b block) Much
less risky than trying to take an L20b to 89mm.

Z20S blocks are supposed to be better than Z20E blocks as they have
siamesed cylinder walls, but as for how far they can go i wouldn't know.
I do have a junk Z20E block I could slice up to find out though :)

The Z22 block is a different casting that can be taken out to 89mm easily
with plenty of meat left in the bores. A Z20 would be close to water then
I would think?

Subject: Z series blocks
I've just been looking at the specs for a few different Z series bits and
pieces and noticed that the Z20 and Z22 blocks appear to be the same,
they're the same deckheight, but the Z20 is 85mm bore and the Z22 is 88mm
bore ..... is the Z22 block just a bored out Z20 block? is it safe to
take a Z20 block out that far? has anyone ever tried this?

Dave
