Richard, Yes I've knowingly seen at least two 1600's with VT callipers fitted but neither had 200B struts, rather 240K which are much the same thing as the early 200B. One of the 1600's I encountered was from the Gold Coast in Qld on the last trip up north and it was no more than 5 minutes after I left chatting to Mick. In the scheme of things the overall condition of this car at the time could best be described as a bit of a beater with heaps of potential (as in well under construction, it amazes me some of the cars you see in Qld half built and on the road, anyway it's probably in much better shape by now. The other occasion was a chance meeting at a garage enroute through Western Sydney in the wee small hours. Both used Verada rotors with 15" wheels which is why I've not looked at this conversion more closely as I very happy with my old style 6x14" hot wire look-a-likes off a 240K GT. I'm sure that the Sydney car has been mentioned on here a few times, it's Kermit green and has a turbo in it and a catchy number plate that I would recognise if I saw it again. Other than the mandatory wave , both these ppl nearly had to pulled out from underneath the rearend of mine so I could continue - they weren't ozdators or familiar with the R31 rear disc conversion and wanted a real good look at it.
I wonder if someone out there is doing a ventilated kit for the 3.5" calliper bolt spaced strut that hasn't got offset ball joints and therefore zero scrub radius geometry. I think Cam McKinnon was dabbling in 3.5" callipers and ventilated rotors area a while back. I don't know for sure about the brake lines, some conversions do require fairly simple mods but it's never usually a major problem, certainly nothing that's a turn off. regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Richard Webb Sent: Monday, 24 March 2003 2:52 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: brake conversion. Terry (or anyone else who has done it), Do you know anyone who has used VT calipers on a 200b/240k strut, if so which rotors do they use? Are brake lines ok or do they also have to be modified? Im guessing VT calipers would still be fairly pricy, its probably best to buy new ones anyway. If I can find which rotors can go with the calipers I'll be attempting this conversion soon. I'll try and take some digital pictures too, so others might be able to do it too. The other problem I will probably have is I only have 14" wheels? If it means buying new wheels too, then it starts getting expensive... thanks in advance Richard > > so, do verada disks and vl calipers fit on standard 71 1600 > struts????? what > ealse is needed ? > > if so, that suits me as i've recently replaced the springs, strut > inserts > and bearings on the standard 71 1600 struts. > > thanks. > > dunc. > > > > > > > > >From: "Terry Rudd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Subject: RE: brake conversion. > >Date: Sun, 23 Mar 2003 01:21:02 +1100 > > > >Mark, > > > >I've read this a couple of times and something still doesn't > quite make > >sense to me here - a 180B/1600 strut has calliper mount bolt > spacing of > >76.2mm (3") which is exactly the sized struts that you've asked > about.
