I have only seen 3" Akebono's. I have a couple of pair of the little antique devils here.

Ok, that's interesting. Are you saying that some of the 180B's came from the factory with Girlock brakes? I've seen quit a few in yards with them, but I always thought the struts were retrofitted 200B items as nearly always the struts are reversed or if they're not reversed the callipers have had a lot of metal ground off them. also, I've never seen a listing for 180B with Girlock pads, only Akebonos and they're 3" callipers, or is there a 3.5" Akebonos. The pads that fit the late model 180B are DB122 (early models use DB33). regards terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of E Smith Sent: Tuesday, 25 March 2003 11:21 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: brake conversion. Terry, We use late model 180B struts only, with the 3.5"/88.9mm spacing. I have a set of 1600/early 180B struts made up at the moment I am looking at Volvo 4 spot/vented disc combinations for. Volvo parts are very dear to reco the calipers I have been told? Very nice Errol - kit #2 looks about right for my style of driving. Just curious on #1 though, how do you cope with the different calliper bolt spacing on 180B (76.2mm) and 200B (88.9mm) struts? IS it a simple as supplying a different calliper depending on which strut you specify. regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of E Smith Sent: Tuesday, 25 March 2003 9:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: brake conversion. They sure do but '71 struts are usually 11.5" jobs (as in very long). Late 180B struts are preferred as they are 10.25" and have 74mm stub axles. With Verada discs you need a bit of re-drilling and machining know how etc and 15" wheels, small weld job to reduce the centre hole in the disc by 1mm for 1600 struts, machine out to 74mm for 180B, re-drill the discs to suit the Datto hub bolt circle and not much else other than a fair bit of spare cash to enable you to use all new parts. Magna discs can also be used and they will fit 14" wheels. You may still be able to buy the Magna based kit from SSS, not sure of what $$$ these days though. regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Duncan Shillito Sent: Monday, 24 March 2003 2:23 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: brake conversion. so, do verada disks and vl calipers fit on standard 71 1600 struts????? what ealse is needed ? if so, that suits me as i've recently replaced the springs, strut inserts and bearings on the standard 71 1600 struts. thanks. dunc. >From: "Terry Rudd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: RE: brake conversion. >Date: Sun, 23 Mar 2003 01:21:02 +1100 > >Mark, > >I've read this a couple of times and something still doesn't quite make >sense to me here - a 180B/1600 strut has calliper mount bolt spacing of >76.2mm (3") which is exactly the sized struts that you've asked about.
