As you have the Hitachi's try them. All it will cost is a manifold gasket. Most people who complain about Hitachi's don't do the following, they bolt a pair of old ones on and expect to fly.
The important things are to make sure the carbs are in good condition, shafts arent worn, vacuum pistons travel freely, fuel bowl floats and needles and seats work, and you tune them correctly. Basically set the fuel level in fuel bowls, set the jets to the right hight at the base of the needles (one and a half to two turns down), ensure the damper oil is there, balance the butterflys at idle and ensure the linkages open both the carbs in unison. If these things are right you will have a good induction setup for your L20B. Webbers are much more complex to set up and heaps dearer to buy, so give the Hitachi's a try. Of course when you want a major power upgrade Webbbers are mandatory.
