hi, i think that it all depends on the preperation. i`ve seen repairs in cars , where the bog has been fine for 30 years or more.
there are certain factors as weather , did the guy mixing up the bog, put in enough hardner, has anything contaminated the bog, moisture etc.......
whats got me beat is how do u file finish lead on a car when u cant get a file on the repair, ?
the thing is there is absolutely nothing wrong with using bog.

Mal,
my friend worked at Exquist Car something, they are the only guys in brisbane that fix ferraris, Lambo's and posches etc, everything was filed finished and lead wiped (no bog) bog shinks after a while.

Wrong
LEAD is the old before bog was invented.
Lead falls out lead rusts underneath it ,in a 510 with grunt the lead will crack and shag out.
Old Jag cars have lead and when they are restored the lead is dug out and replace'd with bog.
bog is lighter and stronger than lead.

for $10k i would want a lead wiped no bog at all job, and every panel perfect, ie for a show car only.

I was just after some views on the following to see if my expectations are wrong.
I am/was going to get the datsun 1600 painted, however a guy came round today to have a look and quoted me around $10,000
$1000 for bead blasting:
engine bay
bonnet - top and bottom
boot lid - top and bottom
outside of car
door jambs
does not include inside car or inside boot
$3000 for materials incl paint, bog and whatever materials there are??
$3000 for panel beating
$3000 for painting in 2pak, etch primer, undercoat, 2 coats or colour, 2 coats of clear
This car is one of the better 1600s I have seen and this guy said there would be minimal work with regards to bog and rust, he said she was pretty good, the same opinion of about 4 other panels beaters who have looked at her.
at $30 an hour, which is what they say they get, that is 100 hours for painting and another 100 hours for panel beating. If they worked 8 straight hours a day from 0800 to 1600 with one hour for lunch they are taking 12-13 days to paint it and ! ! another 13 days to panel beat it. As I said this car is very straight and has minimal bog as is.
Does this sound right or am i right in thinking it is alot. Don't get me wrong, the guy had a look and was here for an hour or so. He went into depth talking about getting the lines right, getting the doors lined up etc and tidying up the engine bay by getting rid of uneeded holes and bits etc
I am sure it would be a good job and done right etc
What do you think?
I have heard about guys rolling in there cars to get pearl show car jobs done and being charged this much which would include stripping the parts from the car too. Mine is a vare shell, no work involved there.
Maybe people Like Pete N or Ray Longmire or even Barry at Datsport might have an opinion as you guys seem to have done the whole hog on restoring your 1600s
