A good friend of mine used to work for a company that the cops took thier radar detector detectors to to get them calibrated. Apparently radar detectors produce a frequency that is just above the one that normal radar uses. Radar detector detectors try to detect that slightly higher frequency to see if you have a radar detector, but in turn produce another slightly higher frequency. He tells me that it is probably (it hasnt been tried) possible to calibrate a radar detector detector to this higher frequency to turn it into a radar detector detector detector, so you could still tell if the cops are about. I may have some of the techical details mixed up, and this was about 6 years ago so the technology has probably moved on.
