fair enough
I guess it may depend on what other suspension and steering components are present and as you said the amount of camber and castor.
I have the datsport fitting kit and am contemplating the r31 struts as well as the fitting kit is not compatable with other struts and therefore no good without them.
I understand you may not have used these struts, the datsport ones, for different reasons. High costs, preference for other struts, hard core DIY attitude etc etc.
Therefore is it posible that the datsport r31 struts would be different to other r31 struts, i don't see how, and have you driven a car with these??
cheers

Subject: RE: better steeringTerryjust read this old post. How does the datsun 1600 with r31 struts and zero offset handle? Can you shed some light on how she feels?
[Terry Rudd] Compared to most modified 1600's that usually have between 2" & 3" positive scrub radius, in a couple of words "like shit!" especially with stock camber & caster etc It turns them into an understeering pig, much like a stock front end suspensioned R31 (got one of them too). Mild understeer that turns into wild oversteer, takes a lot of practice to get a R31 to corner well, and in the wet they are something else again.you have obviously driven one.
[Terry Rudd] Yes, great brakes though. As compared to say one with 180b or 200b or whatever struts?
[Terry Rudd] No comparison without a lot of work, everything adjustable and with a LSD you might get it to turn in OK, then again a LSD might may things worse - the 1600 I drove had an open R180.I am just curious on your opinion is all.thanx mate

Terry Rudd <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Don't start me up again on using struts with zero scrub radius in a 1600 just because you get decent brakes and no bump steer as a bonus. I'd suggest you drive a 1600 (or try to) with R31 struts fitted before you believe they're the ducks guts (personal opinion only). Typically in my experience a good handling 1600 has scrub radius of around 2.5" or more!regardsTerry-----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: better steeringrickso using a kit such as a datsport one which takes care of the suspension and steering geometry thus getting rid of bump steer probs.using r31 struts which have a better scrub radius than the stock 1600 struts on stock suspension and steering and using a steering box brace along with say 6.5" or even 7" tyres with a suitable offset would be the best option for good steering response, handling and braking etc?assuming a good wheel alignment?cheers
