Biggest HP I heard of for FJ20 was 900hp on an
engine dyno. It all happened between 7,000 and 8,500 rpm. Engine was made for a
drag car, not sure what it was though. The engine builder said it was like
turning on a switch, the thing was either either on or off....no in between. It
was only making some small amount of power (say 200bhp - can't remember exact
figures) at 5,000rpm, then it started to climb - all hell broke loose at about
7,000rpm.
The Engine builder was Phil Rhyal (BRS
Motorsports). He certainly knows his FJ20's, and it's just lucky that his
engines are quicker than his service!
