Cant you just advise main roads of an engine number change?
just changing the number doesnt mean its a legal engine
maybe the original owner just told them the new engine number without ever having the engineering done on the car.
qld is probably different to you, but you would need an engineers certificate & blue plate up here

cheers jeff

Subject: {Spam!} FJ20 e Questions (legallity)

Ok mate has a 180B Wagon with a Fj 20 e in it.
It has been passed rego (over the pits with it before)
Engine number is even on the rego papers.

It did a big end so hastlilly he bought another one, dropped it in, quickly.
It blew smoke.
He got a yellow sticker.

He has rebuilt the original FJ20e (to match his rego)

Rego people now want permits??

Can they do that??
They recon it is over 25% more powerfull than the stock L16, re the factory power outputs, so they recon it needs the permit.

How can this happen, this engine is on the rego papers.

Any ideas??
Thanks.
Rick White.
