:) - inventive bunch
arent you !
I
think any kind of thermosetting plastic would be ok if your not going to
reticulate the oil back to the engine ie: one that doesnt become soft again when
heated like a thermoplastic would. I think
i would play it safe & only use a metal can on a return system just in case there is some kind of reaction between
the oil & the plastic.
Maybe a plastic radiator water catch tank would be ok ?
I like
the sound of the coffee tin & also i have heard you can get 2 ltr aluminium
water bottles for hikers\bushwalkers.
the plastic milk
bottle is probably ok for normal breather oil.....wonder how it would hold up to
really hot oil if the engine became over pressurised ?
Kris - yours is nice
& neat from that photo
what did you make it
from ?
where does the clear
line go ? - back to the sump / oil filter ?
thanks for the
feedback Guys.....this is going to be cheaper than i first thought
!
Mine was a milo tin.
Same thing, but with out the clamps

Subject: RE: oil catch can
LOL - I've been using the coffee bean can model for quite some
time now, (not an instant coffee tin model, this is the real high octane
coffee tin). I've only had one scrutineer ever take more than a cursory
glance at it. These come out of the box with a very nice design so they look
a bit prettier than Mick's cordial bottle but that's about all - both models
are very functional. A coffee bean tin is good if you can get hold of one as
they come with a removable & re-sealable lid with clamps so
you can easily service the critter, as in empty out the oil (never seems to
be much in mine anyway but it sure cuts down the smells) & wash out
steel wool with petrol/degreaser etc. What I did see in one of those links
is the use of a baffle to give separate inlet & vent chambers, now that
would improve my design me thinks - I'm going to give that a go and see what
it does.
Regards
Terry
haha I was wondering about my trusty
golden circle 2l cordial bottle.
Seen and approved by a variety of (qld) CAMS
scrutineers.
Cheers
Mick

Subject: oil catch can
Hey
list - I need to organise a 2.0 litre oil breather catch
can.
there are some cheap kits available for
$100.00 but the cans are only small, less than 1.0 ltr anybody
tried to make one from another source ? got iny idea's about where
i could scrounge a 2.0 ltr alloy tank that i could modify ? the 2.0
ltrs is a cams requirement. I dont fancy spending $300.00 for no
performance gain
any help greatly
appreciated.
cheers
Jeff
