I used to have a te cortina
I was getting up it one day getting onto the highway
at first i thought i blew the engine
but that wasnt the caes,
the waterpump bolts sheared off
& the fan went through the bonnet

Check the water pump has curved vanes.  I read that cheap, straight vane
replacement pumps do cavitate.  Also check that the alloy machining behind
the impeller vanes is not corroded or pitted.
