For hill climbs use the 5.1 (i assume with LSD).  Top speed is not your problem, faster accelleration is what you need and a 5.1 gives more.  Forest driven rally cars use a 5.1 for the same reason.
A closer ratio box with a higher first and closer second to third would also make a difference, keeping the engine in the power band continuously.

Subject: diff upgrade - best ratios to use for hillclimb car

I have decided that the next mod that I am going to do to my car is to look at the diff ratio's.
The car is mostly used for hillclimbs, plus the odd super sprint & tarmac road rally.

Is there any reason why i shouldnt just go for a 5.1 ?
could that ratio be too much, would a 4.9 be better ?

at the moment i have the stock 4 speed box but will probably put a 5 speed in the car when the 4 speed breaks.
any advice appreciated

thanks Jeff
