Bilsteins are still the best performers and also longest life shocks for
my money.
I have a set of shock on my sunny coupe that have been used on a stanza
rally car for two seasons, then converted for road rates on a road
stanza. They were then revalved for race use on the shell when it was
turned into a club car, then again revalved for road/club level use on
the sunny coupe. I originally purchased them in 1984.

They may cost more at the start, but they have outlasted many pairs of
other shocks.
I have Koni sport adjustables and older "D" sport shocks on other cars.

Cheers
Feral Errol
