the master is fully depressed, ie i can move the pedal a couple of mm
before it takes pressure, how do i overcome this?

If the travel is not sufficient for the piston to open the transfer port of the cylinder you will not get a pressure drop in the line so thew pedal is hard from the strat of application.
this sounds right?,
i had slightly more pressure on the fronts than the rears.

i was braking quite hard earlier when it did it, looks like the pressure is slowly realised over the day, can heat somehow have anything to do with this?

looks like i need a ignition module as well, not firing on no.4 (bugger)

thanks Errol

Heath,
The check valve is fitted to the master cylinder to keep a 2-3 psi residual pressure in the rear drum brake line so the shoes do retract fully after operation.
With a disc brake this means the pads may not fully release,
Another item to check is thaaat the pedal is allowing the piston to fully open the bypass port so residual pressure is being released from all line.
If the travel is not sufficient for the piston to open the transfer port of the cylinder you will not get a pressure drop in the line so thew pedal is hard from the strat of application.
Cheers

?? Errol what is the check valve?
i have driven the car approx a total of 30 k's (not 30,000)
over a period of a year, it seemed a little better when the car cooled

thanks

The master probably still has the check valve fitted to the rear lines..
