I'm looking at between 14 & 16psi of boost so i'll make ti just a little
tighter.
With re to the Gasket - I have previously bought a metal gasket but the last
couple of auto stockists i've contacted seem to think of full of the
proverbial. I've shot an email off to GCG to see if they have any in stock.
@ Andrew - Thanks mate, think i'll try for a metal gasket - even if it will
work without it, i'd feel more at ease with it. Plus I hate taking the
manifold off when the engines in :)

It really depends on how much boost you'll be running.
If you do it up so that it's only just closed then it will give you around
7psi boost with a straight signal hose and no bleed system. You should be
able to move it by hand at this stage.
If you plan on running 14 or more psi of boost, I would do it up just a
bit
further than that so that it only just can't be moved by hand and can be
levered open with a screwdriver relatively easy. It is not an exact
science
by any means, but the tighter you go the more controlled it will be
(spikes
/ creep) but it will result in a higher default boost setting.
DO NOT use a cardboard or paper gasket. They will burn a hole in them
within
around 20km of driving and you'll lose boost and things will turn to shit.
Cardboard gaskets simply do not work with turbos, end of story.
Get a steel gasket if possible, GCG turbos will sell you one by credit
card
over the phone (sometimes 2nd hand) for around $10 to $15 plus 5 bucks for
an express post bag. A 2nd hand steel gasket is good enough and infinitely
better than a cardboard one.
You can also get a sheet of asbestos gasket paper and make one up if you
wish.
I have also had good success with simply slapping a heap of Maniseal goop
on
the 2 faces and bolting them together, provided that the wastegate flap
has
anough clearance without the gasket. If the 2 faces are flat and there are
no clearance issues, this works incredibly well considering the cost and
simplicity.
Also common garden variety cork-gun silicon can be used as it does not
burn.
Try for a steel gasket first or just use maniseal and it'll be sweet.

I've got a new wastegate actuator for a new turbo and i'm not sure how
tight
the wastegate should be set? Tight as possible or simply closed?
Also with re to gaskets on the exhaust manifold (sr20det) i've gone to two
different places and both could only supply cardboard/paper gaskets to
suit
the sr20det. Would this gasket cause any problems?
