Adam, One comment that I have is in regards to your previous post which mentioned a "T" piece. You can't do it that way as it would make the main master cylinder back feed as you suggested that it may. The locking cylinder has to be fitted in the existing rear brake line.
It goes like this. Rear brake line goes out of the main master cylinder (existing line) - you break into this line and go into the locking master cylinder (new bit, they don't have a reservoir, a Girlock pedal box master cylinder is often used if Landrover type not obtainable), then out of the locking master cylinder via the existing rear brake line which goes to the "T" block for the rear brakes which is located on the rear suspension xmember of a 1600. Another option depending on what you want this for is a line locker - you can pick them up on eBay for $100. Used mainly for burnouts etc they are on/off technology as they use a solenoid i.e. nothing progressive like the inline cylinder is. I see that most of these now come with master and secondary switches like a cruise control setup, a single switch system that get accidentally activated at 200 klicks would sure cause some excitement. Second question response. A "normal" master cylinder in the brake line wont work as it only has a single pressure line out. You need a pressure line in and out of the cylinder. This preserves fluid pressure when "normal" braking is undertaken. An "open" fluid reservior would simply fill when you applied the brakes and your braking system would not retain its pressure to activate the slave cylinders. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adam Jackson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 29, 2006 11:31 PM Subject: Re: hydraulic handbrake master cylinder? what from? > THanks for the info Richard. > > I have a quick question. > > Why can't we use a normal clutch or brake master cylinder?
