________________________________ Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements
Aug. 1, 2012 To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests: 1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance. 2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments; and write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line. 3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames. _______________________________________________________________________ From: :[email protected]> The ninth biennial Ashkenaz Festival (ashkenazfestival.com) of New Yiddish Culture celebrates its return to Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre from Tuesday, August 28 to Monday, September 3 (Labour Day). With an entertaining line-up of some of the most prestigious talents of its kind from more than a dozen countries, the week-long festival features more than 80 acts and 200 individual artists bringing together music, theatre, dance, film, art and literature, the best of the global Jewish, Yiddish and Klezmer culture scene. Most Ashkenaz Festival programming is provided free of charge. Some highlights include: Yemen Blues (Israel/NY), purveyors of high-octane world music fusion combining Yemenite, Middle Eastern and West African influences with jazz, blues and funk; the innovative "movement theatre" show The Corpse Bride, based on a classic Yiddish folk tale; The Yiddish Songs of Arkady Gendler, a special tribute concert and CD release celebrating the original work of one of the greatest living treasures of Yiddish song; and the signature Ashkenaz Parade, transforming Harbourfront Centre into a swirling caravan of music, dance, theatre, stilt-walkers, and giant puppetry. ________________________________________________________ Please do not use the "reply" key when writing to Mendele.
