Yeah I guess that's the crux of it really...

I also hope there's _genuine_ & thorough collab/openness, to the point that *longer-term* there's a chance of a merger (of sorts).
But all that's probably dream land stuff... :-(

I have to pitch in with my point of view here. Firstly - hey to everyone , it's my first post on the list . I've been on the list for a long time , because I liked the idea of the Mer project from the beginning , but I haven't posted , because I didn't have much to contribute . I'm watching the Ubuntu project too , but to take part in the events at hand I can only be in a ambassador-like role . The thing is that Ubuntu wants to control the whole stack , and from what I've seen/read that's why there wasn't much of a talk with the Wayland developers (OR they really thought that their idea was incompatible with Wayland) . Whatever the ground for their decision was the fact is that Cannonical isn't a communist government and if enough devs ,affected by their decision, come together and demand an explanation and to work out the problem - Cannonical will have to anwser (as we know they are are least PR-conscious ) . On the ~"Mir convergence" UDS session after I asked about the lack of cooperation somebody else (nickname:pixelpapst) asked the Mir devs to make a list of features that Wayland is lacking and Ubuntu needs . That list is not going to go live unless there is some pressure applied from the people interested to get and resolve it . But for that to happen there must be a communication point (forum/list) where these people will gather and decide on the actions to be taken specifically . So if anyone here is interested or has an idea - do tell :)

Agreed, there needs to be a coordinated approach towards coming to some kind of resolution... at least in the longer-term.
