benefit from some isi hacking [e.g., libisi]? (via isi i am able to get
battery voltage & temperature info, but haven't yet figured how to get
battery charging status).

Hi,
N900 should charge even when connected to the desktop pc with usb cable.
If it is discharging that is a bug. However if display is on with wifi
and everything else it might be that device is consuming more than it
gets from the usb at least in theory :)
