Some people aren't allowed to / don't want to run Java.

Also, Ruby 1.9 is a better beast. Simple changes to the API make it  
nicer to use. Things like, for instance, the Enumerator class, and  
especially "multilingualization" as built-in. That and the fact that  
it's really quite fast. I know that JRuby is also comparatively fast.

These features along with the ones I've missed are really nice things,  
IMHO.

Just my 2 cents.
