Thanks, Jim (and John). I assume the trans has to come out to replace the seal, but beyond that, is this a very involved task? Doesn't sound like it should be, but you never know.

Jim said it was behaving perfectly until he stopped for dinner, so no obvious signs of anything loose or worn, but I guess there must have been.

For history, has the trans been removed and replaced recently?

It didn't appear to have been - everything underneath has a pretty uniform dirt/oil coating on it. Sunil should know.
