I see it as part of a larger problem, not really related to driving per se.
Our society is largely unhappy, and getting worse by the day.

I use the example of my old neighbourhood, a slightly upscale (rental) urban
area close to a bar/resto/tourist strip. Very much in favour with 19-30 year
old singles. When I moved there, the pharmacy had one pharmacist and one
clerk on duty behind the counter and you could often stop and chat with the
pharmacist easily, as it was rarely busy.

When I left after about 15 years there, the population had not changed much
but there were now three pharmacists and up to four clerks behind that same
counter and it was pandamonium from opening to close.

GP physicians mostly treat unhappiness and discontent in the guise of
illness, these days. I feel for them, as I cannot imagine what it's like to
listen to the parade of lifestyle-induced complaints all day.
