To use
the parking pawl alone risks it failing and repair of a broken pawl is
expensive.
Marshall I could send my wife your note, that might work better than
my reminders that she does need to apply the parking brake as an
unthinking action when ever she exits the vehicle.
BTW, this cross my desk this afternoon, at least my vehicle is 14
years old with "abused" (hope not) or bent linkages, or bad bushings,
I could be looking at having a new vehicle with the problem fresh
from the factory.
DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group will voluntarily recall nearly
600,000 vehicles.
The auto maker said in an email Friday it will recall about 300,000
vehicles from the 2005 model year equipped with six-cylinder engines
and automatic transmissions.
The recall is to fix a plug in the transmission that, if missing or
improperly staked, could prevent the driver from putting the
transmission into park. There have been no accidents or injuries due
to this problem. Vehicles include some Jeep Liberty, Chrysler 300,
Dodge Magnum, Dodge Dakota, Mitsubishi Raider, Jeep Wrangler and
Dodge Durango vehicles. Owners will be notified in October.
Also Friday, Chrysler said it will voluntarily recall about 283,000
2003-2005 Dodge Ram pickup trucks with diesel engines and automatic
transmission to address inadvertent movement of the trucks. The
company said that while it hasn't identified a defect, some drivers
are not fully placing the shift lever in the park position. If the
driver exits a running vehicle without placing the transmission
shifter fully in park, the truck may roll away or, after a delay,
move rearward. Dealers will install an alarm that will alert the
driver if he attempts to exit the running vehicle and the
transmission shifter is not fully placed in park. Owners will be
notified in December.
Additionally, Chrysler will conduct a voluntary safety recall of 142
Dodge Ram Light Duty 4x4 pickup trucks from the 2006 model year to
install new software in the electronic transfer case module. An
improper calibration in these modules could allow the transfer case
to shift to neutral, which could result in a loss of mobility in the
truck is being driven, or the potential for the vehicle to roll away
when parked if it is not on level ground and the parking brake is not
set. Owners will be notified in October. Chrysler said it isn't aware
of any complaints concerning this issue.
