Nope, you've got it pegged - buy & use the brands you are happy with! Thanks, Tom Hargrave www.kegkits.com http://www.kegkits.com/JABF/ 256-656-1924
-----Original Message----- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Gary Hurst Sent: Monday, May 18, 2009 1:12 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Nissens radiators not as good as Behr the biggest problem with nissens is not the quality of their product, but that they are difficult to deal with as a company. they change pricing often and somewhat capriciously and have very much an "our way or the highway" attitude. while nissens has been steadily raising prices, behr has been keeping their prices in line and even dropping some of them. as a consequence, nissens has been losing market share among my customers to behr and to alternative aftermarket companies such as valeo. it's a high happiness product though. i don't think anyone has had any complaints about them at all until kleb. then again, i have customers write to me every day about how they get their parts in one or two business days, while it somehow takes kleb six weeks to get them. but again, if you want a behr, then get a behr. i'm very much a creature of habit so i tend to gravitate towards the same brands: behr, bilstein, stribel, eberspacher, lemforder, sachs, phoenix, beru, graf, akebono, et al. i'm very comfortable with the european, north american or japanese made products of these companies (although some of the stuff from china has been dissapointing despite claims that they are "identical" to the products formerly made in germany". i have no bad feelings about, say, a hepu or a geuine water pump, but will always use a graf. i don't dislike bosch plug wires, but i will always choose a beru or, to save money, karlyns made with beru or bremi components. i will always prefer ate slotted rotors for my front brakes, but i think plane jane zimmerman or balo discs are pretty good too (in fact, italian made ate or brembo seem to be slightly less troublesome than the german brands, although i'm avoiding brembo entirely now as nearly all of their aftermarket rotor production is now chinese). i will always choose akebono pads for the front, but can happily recomment textar/pagid to anyone. (and i will use chinese crap for the most part on the rears, but can see why someone else wouldn't). i will generally prefer brand new ate brake calipers over rebuilts, but i can see why someone would want to spend $60 on rebuilts instead of $200 on new ones. so if you don't like nissens, buy a behr. i'll generally buy a behr myself, but still am confident that nissens is a very high quality product. i only use mobil1 and brad penn oil, but if you want to use havoline or valvoline, i'm not going to say you are a bad person using a bad product. i use a ceramic "steel" to keep the edge on my knives, but you can use a steel one and get even better results than i do. is there something here i'm missing about what kleb and luther are trying to say?
