A guy at work showed me a website which describes how to lock down Windows so that changes can be made during any session but not kept; when you reboot, it loads from a fresh image. If you did that, she would not get any software updates, but she also would not be able to screw it up. Might reduce the frequency of the round trips of whichever PC she uses.

I do find it a bit amusing that she lives in an area that is not wired for electric power or cable TV, but she can get DSL just fine.
